| Summary, etc. | Dans son article « La pensée nouvelle », paru en 1925, Franz Rosenzweig affirme à propos de L’Étoile de la rédemption, qu’il ne s’agit pas d’un « livre juif » mais d’un « système philosophique ». Il revient pourtant, quelques pages plus loin, sur cette affirmation, pour déclarer cette fois qu’« il s’agit bien d’un livre juif ». Comment comprendre le sens de ces deux affirmations de prime abord antithétiques ? En quel sens L’Étoile peut‑elle, à la fois, être et n’être pas un « livre juif », tout en étant un « système philosophique » ? Ce sont à ces questions que cet article cherche à répondre, en montrant comment Rosenzweig entend d’une manière radicalement nouvelle le « système de la philosophie » qu’il présente dans L’Étoile, et en envisageant, à partir de là, quel est le statut qu’y occupe la référence juive. |

| Summary, etc. | In his article “The New Thinking”, published in 1925, Franz Rosenzweig states that The Star of Redemption is not a “Jewish book” but a “philosophical system”. A few pages later in the same article, however, he asserts that “it is indeed a Jewish book”. How can we understand the meaning of these two, apparently antithetical, affirmations ? In which way could The Star be a “Jewish book” and “not a Jewish book”, while at the same time being a “philosophical system” ? To answer these questions, this article analyses the radically new way in which Rosenzweig understands the meaning of the “philosophical system” that he presents in The Star, and discusses the status, which the Jewish reference occupies in it. |
