Summary, etc. | La présente étude se propose d’expliquer la démarche interne du locuteur-scripteur natif lors de l’assignation du genre à un nom et ainsi d’interpréter ces « fautes » de genre, fréquemment rencontrées. Que nous révèlent-elles du fonctionnement du français ? Ce qui apparaît aujourd’hui comme fautif, le sera-t-il encore demain, sachant que l’usage finit le plus souvent par triompher du « bon usage » ? |

Summary, etc. | Vox populi vox Dei? How to identify grammatical gender in French This paper aims to demonstrate the internal process by which a native speaker-writer assigns a gender to a name in French, and thus to interpret gender “mistakes” frequently encountered. What does this tell us about how the French language works? What is seen as a mistake today may not be seen as such tomorrow, knowing that current use more often wins over “correct use”. |
