Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The search for distributional regularities for the categorisation of schwa in French Despite the general consensus on the autonomy of schwa, we discuss, in light of three types of data, a more minimalist analysis with schwa as a variant of /œ/. Judgment data reveal distributional tendencies in particular with regard to morphological structure, further strengthened by production data. However, based on a study of child-directed speech –with a slightly different rate of schwa absence– we propose that the distribution to which the child is exposed is not identical to the one in the adult target language, which could have implications for the categorisation of schwa. |
