520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The author begins by outlining the aspectuo-temporal properties of the French future perfect – futur antérieur (FA). He notes that when the FA is associated with meanings considered as modal, it is used in such a context that one of the locators it implies is unanchored. A hypothesis is then formulated whereby this phenomenon induces evidential effects (or “mediative” as defined by Guentchéva). The author shows how these effects are the source of the two main modal interpretations: “summing-up FA” and “conjecturing FA”. The existential uses (perfect of experience) are also addressed, some of which are also evidential. |
