Summary, etc. | Cette étude explore la co-action des gestes et des pauses dans la complexification syntaxique du discours d’enfants. Peu d’études s’attardent sur le rôle de soutien conjoint des pauses et des gestes lors de la planification d’énoncés syntaxiquement complexes. 22 enfants francophones de 7 à 10 ans ont été vidéo-enregistrés lors d’une tâche de narration. Les pauses (silencieuses, remplies) et leur position dans la proposition (début, milieu, fin), les gestes (référentiels, pragmatiques, régulation), les types d’énoncés (simples, complexes) et les types de propositions (principale, juxtaposée, coordonnée, subordonnée, clivée) ont été quantifiés et analysés. Les résultats montrent un effet conjoint des pauses et des gestes au sein d’énoncés davantage complexes, au début et en milieu de proposition. L’étroite relation entre ces deux phénomènes permet alors la complexification syntaxique du discours. |

Summary, etc. | This study explores the co-action of gestures and pauses in the syntactic complexification of speech in children. Little is known about the joint supporting role of pauses and gestures during the speech planning of syntactically complex utterances. 22 French-speaking children aged 7 to 10 were video-recorded during a narrative task. Pauses (silent, filled) and their position within the clause (beginning, middle, end), gestures (referential, pragmatic, adaptors), utterance type (simple, complex) and clause types (main, juxtaposed, coordinate, subordinate, cleft) were quantified and analyzed. Results show a joint effect of pauses and gestures within more complex utterances, at the beginning and in the middle of the clause. Thus, the tight relationship between these two phenomena enables the process of syntactic complexity in discourse. |
