Elles donnent la parole à des représentants fictionnels du public qui se livrent à l’examen d’une pièce de théâtre. Peut-on envisager ce répertoire comme le lieu d’expression spécifique d’une critique dramatique dramatisée ? Par l’étude détaillée de trois pièces créées entre 1691 et 1702, cet article montre que ces fictions offrent une version déformée des critiques du public pour servir une vocation publicitaire, révélatrice des mutations du champ théâtral à l’aube du XVIIIe siècle. |

| Summary, etc. | In the wake of the Critique de L’École des femmes, comedies of spectators met with a great success among Molière’s successors. They give a say to fictional figures of the audience and allow them to think critically about a theatre play. Can we consider this repertoire as a specific place for a specific kind of dramatic criticism cast in theatrical form? This article focuses on three plays originally performed between 1691 and 1702. It seeks to show that these fictions aim at promoting the plays, thus giving a distorted version of the audience’s criticism. The commercial function of these plays reveals deep transformations in the cultural field on the eve of the eighteenth century. |
