| Summary, etc. | RésuméAujourd’hui, selon les études de l’INSEE, plus de 4 Français sur 5 vivent dans les villes ou dans leur voisinage. La majorité des enfants vivent en ville ou dans des espaces urbains. C’est dire la nécessité, pour eux, de les connaître, de les comprendre, de les expliquer à travers leur évolution par l’intervention des hommes. Nous retrouvons là le rôle éminent de l’école élémentaire, celui de permettre à l’enfant d’appréhender le monde dans lequel il vit. La ville comme objet d’enseignement apparaît donc bien comme un sujet qui doit s’inscrire largement dans l’enseignement de la géographie dès l’école élémentaire ; le propos de cet article est de voir quels dispositifs d’apprentissage mettre en œuvre au cycle III pour une meilleure appréhension de l’espace urbain par les élèves. L’objectif final sera de proposer la meilleure adéquation possible entre la spécificité de la géographie urbaine, la demande sociale d’une initiation des futurs citoyens à la connaissance de leur cadre de vie et les capacités cognitives des jeunes élèves. |

| Summary, etc. | Nowadays, more than 4 French by 5 are living in town. So the majority of children are living in town too. Accordingly, “the city” as a teaching subject seems very important. A study of town brings to the students (who are tomorrow’s citizens) knowledge to understand their living spaces, to take a part in their transformation, at their level. How “the city” is teaching in the elementary school ? The research took interest in the classroom experience and more particularly in the presentation of the topic of the city by the teacher, the approach used, the teaching materials chosen and the creation of the written documents. The final objective will be to recommend the best appropriate solution between the specificity of urban geography and the young pupils’ cognitive abilities. |
