| Summary, etc. | La création de la Comédie-Française a réuni des comédiens de trois troupes différentes, dont certains avaient également joué dans une quatrième. Au cours de cette période, il y eut relativement peu de créations : 90 % environ de la production a consisté en des œuvres qui avaient précédemment été jouées par une ou plus des troupes constituantes. Ces pièces anciennes étaient d’une importance capitale pour le succès de l’entreprise nouvelle et formèrent la base de ce qui allait devenir le répertoire national. |

| Summary, etc. | The Comédie-Française was founded thanks to a series of mergers that brought together actors from three different companies, two of which transitioned via a fourth. In this period, comparatively few new plays were performed and roughly 90 % of the company’s output consisted of works previously given by one or more of the component companies. This repertory of old plays was of capital importance in ensuring the success of the new enterprise and would form the basis of what would become the French national canon. |
