| Summary, etc. | RésuméCet article expose le cheminement méthodologique d’une recherche qualitative en géographie, qui prend corps autour du terrain. Cette recherche questionne la manière qu’ont des hommes ou des collectivités de rendre visible le souvenir, en érigeant des artefacts qui réfèrent à l’espace dans lequel ils se situent. Elle interroge le sens de cette pratique et les constructions identitaires qui en découlent. Il s’agit de montrer à quel point les dispositifs méthodologiques (observation, entretien, recherche-action, recherche documentaire) théoriques (interactionnisme) et le terrain se co-construisent pour cerner ces constructions matérielles et sémantiques. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper presents how various methods have been combined to serve a qualitative research project in geography gradually shaped by the field itself. The project looked at the individual or collective act of erecting memorials as a mean to give shape and visibility to memories. The research explored the meaning of such acts and how they inform local identities. This paper argues that methods (observation, interviews, archival and documentary research and engagement with local community projects), theory (interactionism) and fieldwork dialectally combine with each of the three elements influencing and constantly reshaping the others, creating a framework to understand the material and discursive dimensions of those memorials. |
