Summary, etc. RésuméLe « terrain » a été valorisé comme vérité ou refusé comme illusion. Entre les deux positions se glisse l’expérience dont la souplesse du sens permet de rapprocher le terrain et le laboratoire. Au terrain, cependant, la réalité peut résister aux hypothèses qui sont des sortes de désir quand les objets sont des sujets, des interlocuteurs qui peuvent avoir une idée sur la pertinence des interrogations. À ce moment, le terrain apparaît comme un lieu d’apprentissage permettant de pousser plus loin l’investigation. Derrière les apparences que présentent les représentations et surtout les figurations de l’espace, l’espace des représentations doit être lui-même l’objet d’une investigation. À ce moment, les faits et les valeurs ou les normes qui permettent leur classement ne se recouvrent plus. C’est là que la mobilité des références impose la modestie au savoir scientifique. Mais c’est là aussi que peuvent surgir de nouvelles pistes.

What stands half way between those interpretations is the idea of experience, which flexible meaning might help bring together both the field and the theoretical research. On the field, however, reality can withstand the working hypothesis which can be compared to desires when the object of study is a subject, or to interlocutors who are likely to have an opinion on the relevance of the researcher’s questionings. At that point, the field seems to be a learning ground allowing the researcher to push his/her investigation further. Beyond the appearances revealed by the representations and above all the figurations of space, the realm of representations itself should be thoroughly questioned, as the facts and the values or the norms allowing their assessment and evaluation no longer overlap. At that stage, the mobility of references is bound to make scientific research humble and cautious. But this is also the moment when new challenging leads may come up.
