Si les spectateurs du temps peuvent adhérer à certaines de leurs critiques, lorsqu’elles portent sur les mœurs, ils rient de leurs vitupérations ridicules. Molière entérine ainsi le passage de la parrêsia brutale à la fine raillerie, douce et plaisante. |

| Summary, etc. | Molière converts Lucilian satire into theatrical satire by creating characters, such as Arnolphe or Alceste, whose angry outbursts took up the main topoi of Régnier’s or Boileau’s satire, a genre that was in decline during the reign of Louis XIV. If the spectators of the time could agree with some of their criticisms, when they concerned morals, they laughed at their ridiculous vituperations.
