| Summary, etc. | RésuméDepuis le milieu des années 2000, le terrorisme a contribué à remettre les périphéries ouest-africaines au centre de l’actualité. Alors que les implications politiques et militaires de ces événements ont été largement discutées, une grande confusion règne sur les termes géographiques utilisés pour qualifier l’espace concerné. Terrorisme au Sahel, terrorisme au Sahara : où sont les bases ; où sont les terrains d’action ? Pis, la qualification « zonale » nuit à la compréhension de ce qui est au cœur de la capacité d’agir : des réseaux qui sont à la fois sociaux et spatiaux, passant à travers les limites qu’une géographie encore trop académique peine à transgresser faute d’avoir pleinement compris l’espace mobile des nomades. |

| Summary, etc. | Since the mid 2000s, terrorism has brought media focus on to the peripheries of West- Africa. Although the political and military implications of these events have been widely discussed, great confusion reigns over the geographical terms used to designate the space concerned. Terrorism in the Sahel, terrorism in the Sahara: where are the true bases? Where are the fields of action? What is worse, the qualifying term “zonal” is an obstacle to understanding what lies at the core of the ability to act: networks which are simultaneously social and spatial, extending across limits that a geography which is still too academic finds difficult to infringe for want of fully understanding the mobile space of nomads. |
