Ils expriment l’attachement des gens du Nordeste brésilien à leur culture et à leur terroir. Dans un contexte d’émigration et d’exode rural, ils portent une nostalgie (« saudade »). Les improvisateurs incarnent l’archétype du migrant, leurs performances contribuant à la perpétuelle redéfinition d’une identité. |

| Summary, etc. | The repentistas of Pernambuco, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte are popular poets reply to any request in their audience singing fully improvised verses. They express Nordeste people’s attachment to own culture and land. In an emigration context, such a feeling is conveyed by the portuguese word saudade (nostalgia). There’s an analogy between population mobility and the principle moving improvisers. These ones, that are always travelling to meet their audience, personify migrants’ archetype : improvisers’ performances contribute to a constantly redefined identity. |
