| Summary, etc. | Cet article analyse les réalités et discours sur l’air pendant l’histoire (de la Renaissance au début du xxe siècle), selon les lieux et les milieux. Certains d’entre eux, comme les zones humides, les vallées, les villes ou les « tropiques » ont été associés à un air malsain à cause de la prégnance des théories hippocratiques. En tant que géographe, nous montrerons comment ces « fausses » représentations ont orienté le regard sur les habitants de ces territoires et aussi les aménagements, jusqu’à un changement de paradigme grâce aux progrès de la médecine. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper aims at showing the realities and discourses about the air during the history (from the Renaissance to the beginning of the XXth century), according to the places and environments. Some of them, like wetlands, valleys, towns and “Tropics”, have been associated to an unhealthy air because of the pregnancy of Hippocratic theories. As a geographer, we show how these “mistaken” representations have created a vision of the inhabitants of those territories and consequently, of land planning until a paradigm shift happened thanks to medical advances. |
