| Summary, etc. | L’été dernier (2019), la communauté internationale s’est révoltée face aux incendies qui faisaient rage en Amazonie. Or, de tels phénomènes surviennent également en Asie du Sud-Est. Ici aussi, la forêt est menacée : elle y a connu un fort recul depuis le début du xxe siècle, même si le rythme tend désormais à ralentir. L’article est l’occasion de revenir sur les raisons du recul, en s’attardant plus particulièrement sur la question des incendies. Là, ce sont surtout les ethnies minoritaires qui ont été montrées du doigt, accusées pour leur pratique de l’agriculture itinérante sur brûlis. Pourtant, les facteurs se conjuguent et il est dès lors complexe de mesurer la part de responsabilité de chacun. Dans tous les cas, les conséquences sont notables, perceptibles des échelles locale à globale, et elles se définissent notamment en termes de risques accrus, d’autant plus que le recul des forêts participe à l’accélération du changement climatique. Là, les conséquences des incendies apparaissent bien plus dramatiques que l’exploitation du bois d’œuvre. |

| Summary, etc. | During the last summer (2019), the international community was outraged at forest fires raging across Amazon. However, such phenomena also occur in Southeast Asia. Here, forest is threatened too: it strongly declined since the beginning of the 20th century, even if the trend slows down now. The article is an opportunity to question the reasons of this decline, focusing in particular on the issue of fires. There, it is mainly the ethnic minorities, who were accused for their practice of shifting cultivation. However, the impacts of different factors are combined together and it is therefore complex to measure the responsibility of each one. In all cases, the consequences are significant, perceptible from local to global scales. They are defined in particular in terms of increased risks, especially since the decline of forests contributes to the acceleration of climate change. There, the consequences of the fires are dramatic, much more than logging. |
