Summary, etc. | Superintendent of the Musique de la Chambre du roi at Court, Jean-Baptiste Lully was also director of the Académie royale de musique (the Opéra) in Paris. However, as Louis XIV forbade court singers to be members of the Opéra, and those of the Opéra to join the Musique du roi, Lully was forced to form two separate troupes, with which he alternately performed his works. The cohabitation, evolution and gradual fusion of these troupes offers a very particular example of the circulation of artists at the time, and the administrative, logistical and social problems that ensue. |

Mais Louis XIV interdisant que les chanteurs de la cour soient membres de l’Opéra, et que ceux de l’Opéra intègrent la Musique du roi, Lully se voit contraint de former deux troupes distinctes, avec lesquelles il donne alternativement ses ouvrages. La cohabitation, l’évolution et la fusion progressive de ces troupes offrent un exemple très particulier de circulation d’artistes à l’époque, et des problématiques administratives, logistiques et sociales qui en découlent. |
