| Summary, etc. | A Biblical tragedy published in 1700 by Duché de Vancy following Racine, Jonathas belongs to the Demoiselles de Saint-Cyr repertoire before itw as played (without its music) at the Comédie-Française in 1714. But the play is also part of a long tradition of college theatres. Above all, it seems to have been conceived first and foremost as a play for the Duchess of Burgundy to be staged in private performances at court. An exemplary case of a tragic subject moving between different performance spaces and practices. |
