| Summary, etc. | Pierre Bézier (1910-1999) est un ingénieur innovateur de Renault, pionnier de l’automation et de l’informatique industrielle. Il était un technicien de son temps, fier de ses actions dans des domaines de pointe de l’industrie. De leur côté, les sciences humaines produisent une abondante littérature qui rend compte du phénomène machiniste et proposer des théories à propos des transformations sociales qui en découlent. À partir des archives personnelles de Bézier combinées à celles de l’entreprise Renault, je propose de confronter l’expérience d’automatisation de l’ingénieur à l’évolution de la littérature industrialiste tout au long de sa carrière (1920-1980). Les perceptions culturelles et politiques des uns face aux ressentis techniques de l’autre. Beaucoup de polémiques des sciences sociales échappent au praticien. En miroir (déformé), les débats des chercheurs ne sont pas toujours des réactions directes aux évolutions des machines. La culture et la technique ont des agendas distincts, mais non étanches. |

| Summary, etc. | Pierre Bézier (1910-1999) was major innovator in the field of automation and industrial computing. He was a Renault engineer and technician of his time, proud of his achievements high-tech industry throughout his career (1920-1980). Meanwhile the social science researchers produced an abundant literature that reflected the machinist phenomenon and proposed theories about social transformations arising therefrom. My point is that there was a distorted mirror between these two worlds. I confront the experience of an engineer to the evolution of the industrialist literature through Bézier’s personal archives combined with Renault’s company records. Many social science controversies about machines are absent of the practitioner’s files and vice-versa. Sometimes they match and other times they compete. Culture and technology have separate agendas... |
