| Summary, etc. | L'étude prolonge l'analyse de la politique du savoir dont les Postcolonial Studies ont montré le rôle historique dans le colonialisme européen, pour éclairer le devenir des études littéraires dans les champs contemporains des savoirs. Souligner la continuité entre le régime scientifique moderne mis en place dans le processus de colonisation de l'Inde – où la littérature a été un enjeu majeur – et la transformation de l'ordre cognitif dans la Mondialisation permet d'opérer une historicisation de la catégorie européenne de « littérature », qui rend compte à la fois de sa situation actuelle et de son tressage constitutif et transhistorique à l'Inde. |

| Summary, etc. | Postcolonial Studies have demonstrated the constitutive role of the politics of knowledge in the European colonial project. Bringing this perspective forward to the globalised present, the article considers the shifting status of literary studies in the contemporary situation of knowledges. It traces the historic continuities between the development of scientific modernity enabled through the process of colonizing India – with the central part ascribed to literature – and the cognitive regime gradually imposed by Globalization, to argue for a historicized revaluation of the European category of `literature' that accounts both for its current situation and its intrinsic, trans-historic connectedness to India. |
