| Summary, etc. | Cet article se propose d’observer la façon dont se déploie l’ambigüité du motif de la bêtise dans l’œuvre de Flaubert en cernant les dispositifs formels et énonciatifs par lesquels le processus littéraire médiatise la représentation du phénomène et ses significations sociales. Il s’agira d’articuler différentes formes que prend la bêtise autour de l’hypallage identifié dans la figure du regard béant. Cette lecture discursive et stylistique d’un chapitre de Salammbô (« Moloch ») met ainsi en évidence la dynamique d’inversion des regards de la bêtise et sur la bêtise ainsi que la violence et la stupeur qui lui sont inhérentes. |

| Summary, etc. | This article proposes to observe how the ambiguity of the stupidity motif is displayed in Flaubert’s work in defining the formal and enunciative devices through which the literary process mediates the representation of the phenomenon and its social significations. We will establish different relationships assumed by stupidity around the hypallage identified in the figure of the wide open eyes. This reading – discursive and stylistic – of a chapter of Salammbô (« Moloch ») brings thus into light the inversion dynamics of gazes of and on stupidity as well as the violence and the stupor inherent in it. |
