| Summary, etc. | Servant d’introduction aux articles réunis dans cet ensemble thématique, cette étude propose un bref parcours historique du canon littéraire. Partant de la Bible pour aboutir au « livre de la mémoire » mis en valeur par Proust, nous nous arrêtons sur différents moments destinés à illustrer les objectifs et les questions que pose la constitution de catalogues d’auteurs et de livres dont on entend privilégier la lecture : la constitution du corpus homérique, les listes d’auteurs proposées durant l’Antiquité gréco-latine, les curricula des institutions scolaires médiévales, les premières listes d’œuvres et d’écrivains en langue française, la notion de classicisme, la bataille des Anciens et des Modernes et, avant d’en arriver à Proust, le rejet du bagage culturel transmis par l’autorité des maîtres. |

| Summary, etc. | As an introduction to the papers collected in this thematic issue, this study proposes a brief historical survey of the literary canon. From the Bible to the "book of memory" enhanced by Proust, we explore different moments in order to illustrate the objectives and the questions posed by the constitution of catalogs of authors and books the reading of which must be privileged : the constitution of the Homeric corpus, the lists of authors proposed during the Greco-Latin antiquity, the curricula of medieval school institutions, the first lists of works and writers in French, the notion of classicism, the Querelle des Anciens et Modernes and, before ending with Proust, the refusal of the cultural baggage transmitted by the masters’authority. |
