Summary, etc. | This research aims to shed light on the analysis and classification of the indefinite and partitive article. We hypothesize that the French language should have only one article, which is the definite article. On the other hand, the two forms of the indefinite article (un and une) are merely cardinals denoting a quantitative value, while the form (des) is a combination of the unit “de,” functioning as an adjective denoting an indeterminate quantity of the corresponding noun, and the plural form of the definite article (les). The partitive article is nothing more than a quantitative adjective (de) combined with one of the variants of the definite article. To achieve this objective, we will address the following questions: what syntactic classification should be assigned to the indefinite and partitive article? Is the form “des” the plural variant of “un and une”? Is “de” in the partitive article “du, de la, de l’ et des” a preposition, a component of partitive, or should it be analyzed differently?Based on our hypothesis, we believe that the determination of nouns by the article should be treated and presented differently in grammar and by teachers in order to avoid errors and facilitate learning. |
