| Summary, etc. | Cet article s’intéresse à l’évolution du système de recherche en France. Longtemps dominé par les organismes de recherche, ce système a évolué notamment par l’adoption de la « Loi relative aux libertés et responsabilités des universités » (LRU, 2007) qui devait remettre les universités au cœur du dispositif. Non fondamentalement modifiée par la loi Fioraso, cette loi contribue à l’appauvrissement des universités qui ne font pas face à leurs charges. Il convient donc de s’interroger sur la recherche, son rôle culturel et sociétal, son fonctionnement et sa place dans la société d’aujourd’hui en adaptant la célèbre formule de Jean-Baptiste Coffinhal : la République a-t-elle besoin de savants ? |

| Summary, etc. | This article deals with the recent changes in the French research system. The system has long been original compared to other systems, in particular for the prevalent place occupied by the research organisms (CNRS, INSERM, CEA ...). This has been modified by a recent law (LRU, 2007) supposed to place the universities in the center of the French system. In fact, this law, not fundamentally modified by the recent Fioraso law (2013), contributes to the impoverishment of the universities. It is therefore time to question the cultural and societal role of research in the society and ask the famous question of Jean-Baptiste Coffinhal relative to the trial of Lavoisier : does the republic need scientists? |
