| Summary, etc. | La perspective que des seuils écologiques planétaires puissent être franchis dans les décennies à venir apparaît désormais inéluctable, et tout porte à croire que les conséquences humaines et matérielles en seront incalculables. Dans cet article, nous développons une relecture critique de deux tentatives qui ont été proposées pour répondre au désarroi moral causé par cette situation inextricable : la « collapsologie » de Pablo Servigne et ses pairs, et la réflexion sur le mal de Pierre-Henri Castel. Nous soulignons l’insuffisance de ces deux approches, et défendons que la philosophie de l’histoire de Hegel puisse nous permettre, en donnant un sens nouveau à l’idée de liberté, de maintenir ouverte la possibilité d’un à-venir, et ce alors même que nous sommes entrés dans les temps de la fin. |

| Summary, etc. | The perspective that planetary ecological thresholds could be passed in the coming decades now appears unavoidable, and there is mounting evidence that human and material consequences could exceed imagination. In this paper, I outline a critical analysis of two attempts that have been made in order to answer the moral disarray caused by this inextricable situation: P. Servigne’s and his co-authors’ so-called “collapsology”, and P.-H. Castel’s recent reflection on evil. I highlight the shortcomings of these approaches, and argue that even if we have collectively entered the end of times, Hegel’s philosophy can help us deepen our understanding of what freedom consists in, and hence make sense of the infinite possibles that are disclosed to us as history continues to unfold. |
