| Summary, etc. | RésuméPour mieux comprendre les évolutions de l’engagement et des engagés dans les organisations sociales et humanitaires, l’article examine le cas d’Emmaüs en France et cherche à reconstituer les générations militantes qui se sont succédées depuis les débuts. Il met en évidence trois grandes périodes et six générations : le temps des pionniers (1953-1956), militants de la première heure puis de « l’hiver 54 » ; l’engagement alternatif des Trente Glorieuses, social dans les années 1960 puis utopique dans les années 1970 ; enfin l’investissement de crise, fait de chrétiens de la Deuxième gauche puis de figures plus institutionnelles. Ce faisant, l’auteur montre les porosités entre humanitaire « interne » et « international », le brouillage des frontières entre engagement social et humanitaire au second xxe siècle, et analyse comment l’engagement humanitaire, au-delà d’une façade parfois neutre ou neutralisée, constitue tant un report qu’une transformation des traditionnels engagements politiques et religieux aujourd’hui en crise. |

| Summary, etc. | To better understand the evolution of activism and activists in social and humanitarian organizations, this article examines the case study of Emmaüs in France. It seeks to retrace the three main periods and six main generations of activists since the organization’s creation : first, the era of pioneers (1953-1956), the first militants in the famous “winter of 1954” ; second, the alternative activism of the Trente Glorieuses, more social in the 1960’s, then more utopian in the 1970’s ; and finally the militancy of social and economic crisis, involving first Christians of the French “second left”, then more institutionally-oriented activists. The author also demonstrate the porosity between “domestic” and “international” humanitarism, between “social” and “humanitarian” involvement, and the transformation of “old” political and religious militancy which pass through a crisis. |
