520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The religious texts are often held responsible for crimes committed on their behalf. This is a category-specific mistake this paper tries to clear up. It calls back the total heterogeneity between the order of the letter and that of the reality, as emphasized by Spinoza and Kant. Kant established that “the being is not a real predicate”. Between ideas and actions, there is a qualitative gap that can be filled only by a decision of practical order, for which only individuals and institutions are liable. The history of Christianity provides a good factual illustration with the well-known « Compelle intrare »(Luke XIV 12-23) used as a pretext to justify the forced conversions. The idea of some germ process between a text and a political practice entails, and sometimes seems to have been devised for, blurring responsibilities and making ordinary believers bear the blame. This idea appears to be an ultimate avatar of the sacralization of texts in the religions of the Book. |
