| Summary, etc. | Les auteurs placent la question des pratiques linguistiques au centre même des processus d'insertion, en insistant sur l'idée selon laquelle tout locuteur se manifeste, s'actualise socialement – en partie au moins – de manière linguistique, dans ses échanges avec les autres. La question de l'indexicalité des usages linguistiques (être auteur d'un discours, c'est, inévitablement, dire des choses de soi, de l'autre, de la situation) est étudiée à partir d'entretiens avec des travailleurs sociaux. Les exemples analysés plaident pour l'indissociabilité de la “langue” et de la “société”, l'une étant partiellement constitutive de l'autre, ce qui nécessite une approche qui, pour étudier la dimension linguistique, ne tente pas de la séparer de ses conditions de production et de décodage. |

| Summary, etc. | Language and fitting into Society.Materials for sociolinguistic speculation The authors place the question of language practice at the very heart of the integration process, by insisting on the idea that speakers exist socially-at least in part- linguistically, through their exchange with others. The indexicality of language use (being the author of a discourse means, inevitably, saying things about oneself, the other, the situation) is studied here in interviews with social workers. The examples analyzed plead for the inseparability of “language” and “society”, each being a part of the other, which requires an approach that, in order to study the linguistic dimension, does not attempt to separate it from its conditions of production and comprehension. |
