| Summary, etc. | De nombreux travaux en sciences sociales ont insisté à juste titre sur le fait que l’état de malade ne se réduit pas à la place de patient qu’assigne le dispositif médical. En s’intéressant aux trajectoires des personnes ainsi qu’à l’activité constante qu’ils déploient, ils ont contribué à modifier le regard porté sur l’expérience vécue de la maladie. Dans quelle mesure une telle approche peut-elle être généralisée à des situations où le statut de patient semble prédominer, en raison de l’absence d’autonomie des personnes ? La prise en charge de la douleur des enfants polyhandicapés et non parlants constitue un cas particulièrement intéressant pour interroger la place assignée au malade par l’entourage parental et soignant. En s’appuyant sur l’étude interactionnelle des consultations d’analgésie impliquant des enfants polyhandicapés et non parlants, on montre en particulier la manière dont les participants sont amenés, lors des consultations, à rendre visibles et à stabiliser les modalités expressives de ces enfants, qui, du fait des maladies dont ils souffrent, sont en constante évolution. |

What kind of support can one expect for disabled and non-speaking children ?Many studies in social sciences have pointed out that the state of illness can not be reduced to being a patient, as it is being done by the medical environment. By focusing on life trajectories, as well as on daily activities, these works have contributed to changing the way the experience of illness is perceived. How could this type of approach be generalized to situations in which the status of patient prevails because of the individuals’ lack of autonomy ? Dealing with multi-disabled and non speaking children’s pain is a particularly interesting example for discussing the place to which parental and medical entourage assigns sick people. This paper is based on the interaction study of analgesic consultations involving multi-disabled and non speaking children. It aims to show how participants are able to make visible and to stabilize these children’s ways of expression which – due to their illnesses – are constantly evolving. |
