| Summary, etc. | Cet article interroge, à partir d’un terrain réalisé en Turquie, l'expression «langue kurde» qui désigne plusieurs variétés. La Turquie a, jusqu'à une date récente, nié l'existence de la langue kurde et produit des représentations particulières la turquifiant. Très proches mais de familles différentes, on trouve des langues dont les locuteurs se définissent pourtant souvent comme Kurdes. Définitions linguistique et sociale de ce qu'est la « langue kurde» ne coïncident donc pas toujours. La diversité linguistique importante est renforcée par l’apparition de mouvements nationalistes et par leurs tentatives de standardisation. L'unification linguistique est un échec : plusieurs standards kurdes apparaissent dans les différents pays où vivent les Kurdes. L’unité linguistique étant souvent perçue comme la garante de l’existence de la nation, le milieu militant kurde adopte alors des politiques visant à réaliser une plus grande unité linguistique. Enfin, c’est aussi par l’adoption du turc, langue dominante en Turquie, que les Kurdes pratiquent une langue commune. |

| Summary, etc. | The languages of Kurds in Turkey : the need to reconsider the phrase « Kurdish language » The aim of this paper is to examine, through a fieldwork in Turkey, the notion of « Kurdish language ». This expression does not refer to a single object but to different varieties. Until a very recent period, Turkey has always negated the existence of an autonomous Kurdish language and has turkified it. Occidental classifications do mention a family of Kurdish language. But Kurds also speak related languages which do not belong to the Kurdish family. Then, linguistic and social definitions of what is the Kurdish language do not always coincide. This diversity of language varieties is reinforced by standardisation processes. Indeed, standardisation process is not centralized, linguistic unification fails and then different Kurdish standard languages appeared. As the national community is often associated with the idea of a common and unique language, Kurdish activists run new policies and discourses aiming at gathering these languages. At last, the idiom of the Kurds is also unified through the adoption of the dominant language, Turkish. |
