Le théâtre constitue l’un des terrains privilégiés de cet apprentissage. Spectateur assidu, lecteur passionné, connaisseur avisé, Condorcet, conseiller de Voltaire pour la création de ses dernières tragédies, prend en charge après sa mort l’édition de l’œuvre complète du philosophe et fait du théâtre un corpus de premier plan, dont il commente abondamment les enjeux esthétiques, politiques et philosophiques. Dans l’ensemble de ses écrits sur le théâtre, Condorcet défend un modèle tragique politique, et fait du théâtre l’art utile par excellence. |

| Summary, etc. | Being aware of the perfectibility of human moral and social virtues, Condorcet believes that citizenship can be learned. The theatre constitutes one of the privileged fields of this apprenticeship. An assiduous spectator, passionate reader, wise connoisseur, Condorcet, adviser to Voltaire for the creation of his last tragedies, took charge after the latter’s death of publishing the complete work of the philosopher and made the theatre a leading corpus, on which he commented abundantly on the aesthetic, political and philosophical issues. In all of his writings on theatre, Condorcet defended a tragic political model, and made theatre the useful art par excellence. |
