| Summary, etc. |

| Summary, etc. | Mixed families and the languages they use : a study of family lan-guage policies in India Mixed families and the languages they use : a study of family lan-guage policies in India --> This article examines the influence of life courses on the (non-) transmission of languages in mixed families in India. A brief presentation of “organic pluralism” shall be followed by an introduction to “family”, “marriage”, “family language policy” and “mother-tongue” in the Indian context. Several examples of linguistically mixed marriages illustrate the case where parents have not transmitted all the languages of their verbal repertoire to their children. Drawing from fieldwork in India and based on case studies, an attempt will be made to show how language policy and linguistic practices are conditioned by, among other factors, migration, socialisation, and parental reactions to a marriage. |
