520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | “I say they don’t have education: ” Industrialization, social mobility, and linguistic activism in Canada, 1914-1952The implementation of an industrial economy in 20th century Canada structured a politico-economic framework centered around the rationalization of the production process and the emergence of an ideology of meritocracy. In that Framework, language and education became legitimate criteria for exclusion from certain types of work. In this article, I rely on archives, memoirs and academic articles of the period of industrialization to study the emergence of the concept of linguistic competence, its application to the entire labor market and the tensions it raised for a linguistic minority, l’Acadie. |
