| Summary, etc. | Dans le débat autour de l’âge auquel conférer le sacrement de la confirmation, le droit canonique peut apporter un éclairage intéressant. En confiant aux conférences épiscopales la possibilité de déterminer un âge postérieur à l’âge de raison pour l’administration du sacrement, le code met en œuvre le principe de subsidiarité et invite à valoriser la diversité des approches, à l’écoute de la pratique des communautés chrétiennes. Cependant, le rappel de la norme – « le sacrement de confirmation sera conféré aux alentours de l’âge de raison » – invite également à avoir souci de la cohérence d’ensemble de la pastorale du sacrement. |

| Summary, etc. | Canon law can shed an interesting light on the debate concerning the age at which the sacrament of confirmation ought to be received. By offering bishops’ conferences the option of setting an age above that of the age of discretion for conferring the sacrament, the Code applies the principle of subsidiarity and invites us to affirm the value of a diversity of approaches, in attentiveness to the existing practice of Christian communities. However, a reminder of the norm – “the sacrament of confirmation is to be conferred at about the age of discretion” – also invites us to consider the need for consistency throughout pastoral practice regarding this sacrament. |
