| Summary, etc. | Présentée comme un pur produit de la culture occidentale, la sécularisation – entendue aussi bien en tant que transfert des règles théologiques vers le domaine politique qu’en tant que refoulement progressif du religieux dans la sphère privée – est souvent décrite comme un processus antinomique avec les principes religieux de l’Islam, voire comme une négation de ses expériences humaines et civilisationnelles. Cette thèse qui s’est développée au XXe siècle dans les courants de pensée se réclamant de l’islamisme engage des recherches sur la spécificité politique de l’Islam et sur la prétendue identité exclusive à travers laquelle on saisirait les concepts d’État, de constitution ou de souveraineté au sein de cette culture. A rebours de cette thèse, l’article cherche à attirer l’attention sur la présence d’une forte tradition séculière en terre d’Islam, et s’appuie sur quelques figures majeures de la pensée religieuse et politique afin de montrer l’existence d’une approche problématisée des « faits religieux ». Il invite aussi à suivre les traces d’une forte réflexion critique portant sur la tolérance et l’intolérance, le fanatisme et les possibilités du vivre-ensemble ou encore sur les rapports, souvent conflictuels, entre la religion et la politique. |

| Summary, etc. | Thoughts on secularization during the first centuries of IslamPresented as a pure outcome of the Western culture, secularization – understood as a transfer of theological rules to the political field and as a progressive limitation of the Religious to the private sphere – is often described as a process which is at odds with the religious principles of Islam, and can even be considered as a denial of its human and civilizational experiences. This thesis which has been developed during the 20th century in schools of thought that claim to be ‘Islamist’ involve researches on the political specificity of Islam and the so called exclusive identity through which we would apprehend within this culture the concepts of State, of Constitution or of Sovereignty. Against this thesis, the article seeks to draw attention on the presence of a strong secular tradition in Islam and relies on some major figures of the religious and political thought in order to show the existence of a problematized approach of ‘religious facts’. This contribution also invites to follow the tracks of a strong critical reflection on tolerance and intolerance, on fanaticism, on the possibilities of ‘living together’ or on the (often conflictual) relationships between Religion and Politics. |
