| Summary, etc. | Alors que l’indépendance artisanale constituait une filière de promotion ouvrière au cours des Trente Glorieuses, le contexte économique actuel nous invite à réinterroger le sens de l’accès au statut d’artisan. Appuyé sur l’analyse de données quantitatives extraites de l’enquête formation et qualification professionnelle (FQP) de l’Insee, enrichie d’entretiens individuels, l’article s’attache à caractériser les trajectoires d’artisans d’hier et d’aujourd’hui. Il rend ainsi compte des deux grandes voies d’accès au statut d’artisan (par le métier ou par le statut d’indépendant) et des ressources que mobilisent les uns et les autres pour s’installer à leur compte. |

| Summary, etc. | While the craft independence was a pathway for social promotion for workers during the « glorious thirty », the current economic environment invites us to ask again the sense of the access to craftsman’s status. Based on the analysis of quantitative data extracted from the study « formation et qualification professionnelle ». (FQP) of the INSEE (National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies), improved by individual interviews, the article attempts to characterize trajectories of craftsmen of yesterday and today. It explains two ways to access to craftsman’s status (by the craft or by independent’s status) and resources call for setting themselves up in business. Classification JEL : J10, J21. |
