| Summary, etc. | On définit la vulnérabilité comme la probabilité de voir sa situation ou ses conditions de vie se dégrader, quel que soit son niveau de richesse, face à un choc ou à un aléa. Pour analyser la vulnérabilité, il faut non seulement identifier le risque global encouru par chaque ménage ou individu dans un lieu et à une époque donnés, mais aussi leur capacité de réaction ou de résilience, c’est-à-dire l’ensemble des capabilités permettant de mettre en œuvre toutes les possibilités qui s’offrent pour résister aux effets négatifs du choc et de se reprendre. Nous cherchons à mettre en évidence les capabilités qui fondent la résilience ou la vulnérabilité des ménages dans le contexte particulier du cyclone Éline qui a sévèrement touché Manjakandriana en février 2000. |

Analysing the transitions in and out of poverty: the case of Manjakandriana in Madagascar The definition of vulnerability is the probability of having his/her situation or standards of living worsen facing shocks or risks, whatever his/her level of economic strength. To analyse vulnerability, it is necessary to identifiy not only the potential global risk one household or one person may encounter in a given time and a given place, but also the capability of reaction or resilience, that is to say all the capabilities which will make them able to react positively and to get back to one's feet. We try to highlight the capabilities that make the difference between households’resilience and vulnerability when facing the effects of cyclone Eline that had heavily struck Manjakandriana in February 2000. |
