| Summary, etc. | RésuméL’histoire de la gestion des compagnies d’assurance est mal connue en France. La manière dont elles traitaient les risques avant que les méthodes mathématiques et statistiques ne soient sérieusement élaborées reste un point d’ombre. En reprenant les documents de gestion opérationnelle de deux compagnies on peut tenter de comprendre comment elles géraient leurs risques principaux, à savoir l’incendie et l’assurance-vie. Avec deux cultures d’entreprise proches, ces sociétés sont arrivées à des résultats financiers sensiblement différents en fonction de l’état du marché de ces deux risques assurables. |

| Summary, etc. | The history of the management of insurance companies is poorly known in France. The manner in which they dealt with risk before the seriously developed mathematical and statistical methods remains a point of shadow. By taking documents of operational management of both companies, we can try to understand how they were managing their key risks, namely fire and life insurance. With two similar corporate cultures, these companies came to markedly different financial results on the State of the market of these two insurable risks. |
