| Summary, etc. | En 1973, s’est tenu le premier sommet franco-africain. Présenté par les dirigeants français et africains comme une « réunion de famille », liée aux relations étroites entretenues par la France avec les anciens membres de la Communauté française, ce premier sommet visait surtout à répondre à un climat de crise dans un contexte de remise en cause du système de coopération mis en place au début des années 1960 par certains partenaires de la France. Après le décès de Georges Pompidou et l’élection de Valéry Giscard d’Estaing le 19 mai 1974, la tenue d’une nouvelle réunion en 1975 permet d’acter l’annualité de ces rencontres et le principe d’une alternance entre la France et un pays africain pour l’accueil de la conférence. L’objectif de cet article est d’étudier l’évolution du Sommet entre sa première formule en 1973 et sa huitième édition en 1981. Les réflexions de l’exécutif français sur la définition du sommet, sur son élargissement à de nouveaux membres et sur son degré d’institutionnalisation, permettent de saisir l’évolution des objectifs de la politique de la France en Afrique en lien avec le contexte international et national. |

| Summary, etc. | The first French-African heads of State summit occurred in 1973. Presented by the French and African leaders as a “Family reunion”, in regard of the close relations between France and the ancient members of the French Community. This first summit aimed to respond to a crisis climate due to the questioning of the cooperation system established by some of France’s partners in 1960. After Gorges Pompidou’s death and the election of Valery Giscard d’Estaing the 19th May 1974, the development of a new reunion in 1975 will allow the establishment of a yearly nature to the summit and the begging of an alternation dynamic for the hosting of the event between France and an African Country. The aim of this article is to study the evolution of the summit between its first happening in 1973 and the 8th edition in 1981. The French executive thoughts about the definition of the Summit, its expansion to new members and its institutionalization degree, allow one to grasp the evolution of French’s African policy objectives in relation to the national and international context. |
