| Summary, etc. | L'objectif de cet article est de souligner le rôle des institutions dans la formation d'une assise à un développement financier sain pour les pays du Moyen-Orient et de l’Afrique du Nord dans un contexte de globalisation financière. Nous calculons, à l’aide d’une étude économétrique comprenant un échantillon de 12 pays du Moyen-Orient et de l’Afrique du Nord sur la période 1984-2010, des seuils de développement institutionnel à partir desquels une ouverture financière internationale pourrait être bénéfique au développement financier. |

| Summary, etc. | The institutional quality as determinant of financial development in Middle East and North Africa countries: evidence from panel data The main aim of the paper is to point out that capital account openness for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries would hinder its financial development. In contrast, the financial openness would be beneficial in the presence of the adequate institutional environment. We use an econometric panel model with non-overlapping data for the period 1984-2010 for 12 MENA countries to link financial development indicators to institutional ones, in order to calculate institutional thresholds. |
