| Summary, etc. | RésuméAprès un bref retour sur l’historiographie des socialismes, l’article revient sur un des premiers grands débats du socialisme international, la querelle révisionniste au tournant des xixe et xxe siècles. Contre une lecture trop simple, mais répandue, qui établit un lien direct entre ceux qui s’inscrivent dans une révision qu’ils jugent nécessaire du marxisme et le réformisme politique, l’article montre que le révisionnisme, au moins dans sa phase initiale, a été aussi perçu comme un « appel d’air » face à une orthodoxie qui avait stérilisé la réflexion politique et historique. |

| Summary, etc. | After a brief survey of the historiography of socialisms, the article revisits one of the first great debates of international socialism, namely the revisionist controversy at the end of the nineteenth century. Against a simplistic, but broadly accepted, reading which establishes an immediate link between those figures who called for a revision of Marxism and political reformism, the article demonstrates that revisionism, at least in its initial phase, was perceived as a “breath of fresh air” in the face of an orthodoxy which had sterilised all reflection on politics and history. |
