| Summary, etc. | L’article contribue à une histoire culturelle transatlantique des klezmorim, ces musiciens juifs itinérants originaires d’Europe de l’Est et immigrés aux États-Unis entre la fin du xixe siècle et le premier quart du xxe siècle. S’attachant à l’étude de ces expériences d’exils américains, il analyse certains aspects du processus d’intégration de ces musiciens aux organisations professionnelles américaines, dans le cadre d’une économie du divertissement en plein essor (spectacle vivant, industrie discographique, radiophonie et cinéma). Loin de se limiter à de simples phénomènes d’acculturation ou d’américanisation, l’intégration de ces musiciens aux sociabilités américaines redéfinit leur rapport à une Europe perdue. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper is a contribution to the transatlantic cultural history of the Klezmorim – i.e., itinerant Jewish musicians from Eastern Europe who immigrated to the United States between the end of the nineteenth century and the first quarter of the twentieth century. By focusing on these experiences of American exile, the article analyzes specific aspects of the process of integration of these musicians into the professional organizations of the USA, amid a booming entertainment economy (performing arts, the recording industry, radio, and cinema). Far from being limited to mere phenomena of acculturation or Americanization, the integration of these musicians into America’s social fabric redefines their relationship to a lost Europe. |
