Summary, etc. | Since 2002, with the discovery of vacuoles in human sperm heads through high-magnification observation, the nature of these vacuoles has been the subject of much debate, and the benefit of selecting a non-vacuolated spermatozoon before injection (Intra-cytoplasmic Morphologically-selected Sperm Injection – IMSI) remains controversial. In this review, we describe the links between sperm vacuoles and chromatin condensation abnormalities, the nuclear nature of vacuoles, and advancements in the characterization of these vacuoles, specifically the relationship between high-magnification morphology and the sperm epigenome. |

Summary, etc. | Depuis 2002, date de la découverte de vacuoles au niveau des têtes spermatiques humaines grâce à l’observation à fort grossissement, la nature de ces vacuoles a été l’objet de nombreux débats et l’intérêt de sélectionner un spermatozoïde non vacuolé avant injection (IMSI, pour intracytoplasmic morphologically-selected sperm injection) est toujours controversé.
