| Summary, etc. | Résumé En milieu scolaire, le harcèlement est l’une des expressions les plus courantes de la violence dans le contexte des pairs. La recherche sur le harcèlement a commencé il y a plus de quarante ans, lorsque le phénomène a été défini comme « des actes agressifs et intentionnels commis par un groupe ou un individu à plusieurs reprises et au fil du temps contre une victime qui ne peut pas facilement se défendre ». Trois critères sont pertinents pour définir le comportement agressif comme un harcèlement : (1) la répétition, (2) l’intentionnalité et (3) un abus de pouvoir. Dans cet article, nous discutons de la prévalence, des différences d’âge et de sexe, ainsi que de la raison pour laquelle il se produit et en commençant par les grandes enquêtes menées dans les pays occidentaux. Les facteurs de risque ainsi que les conséquences à court et à long terme du harcèlement et de la victimisation sont discutés. Les stratégies de prévention efficaces sont rapportées et les perspectives proposées. |

| Summary, etc. | During the school years, bullying is one of the most common expressions in the peer context. Research on bullying started more than forty years ago, when the phenomenon was defined as agressive, intentional acts carried out by a group or an individual repeatedly and over time agaisnt a victim who cannot easily defend him- or herself. Three criteria are relevant in order to define agressive behavior as bullying: (1) repetition, (2) intentionality and (3) and imbalance of power. Prevalence, age, and gender differences are discussed, as well as why it happens, starting from the large surveys carried out in western countries. Risk factors are focused as well as short- and long-term outcomes of bullying and victimization. Finally effective prevention is discussed, and issues proposed. |
