Summary, etc. | Dans les Cinq ballades françaises de Caplet, un riche éventail de techniques rythmiques fait naître différents types d’espaces auditifs. Caplet utilise fréquemment le piano à l’égal de la voix et ses passages solistes influent sur la perception du temps musical par l’auditeur. L’application de méthodes analytiques essentiellement rythmiques à trois mélodies de cet ensemble – « Cloche d’aube », « Songe d’une nuit d’été » et « L’adieu en barque » – révèle des idées musico-poétiques caractéristiques du compositeur. L’analyse d’extraits de ces mélodies met en lumière deux points particuliers de la place du rythme parmi les différents éléments de son langage musical : les distorsions rythmiques présentes dans les passages de piano soliste et le travail sur la prosodie et l’équilibre des rythmes poétique et musical. Cet article ouvre des perspectives d’approches renouvelées du langage remarquablement original de Caplet, prompt à créer des sonorités et des atmosphères nouvelles et captivantes. |

Summary, etc. | In Caplet’s Cinq Ballades Françaises, a range of rhythmic approaches evoke different kinds of aural spaces. Caplet frequently situates the piano as an equal component to the voice, and piano solo passages create sonorities that can influence the listener’s perception of musical time. In taking extracts from three mélodies in this set – “Cloche d’aube”, “Songe d’une nuit d’été” and “L’Adieu en barque” – this article outlines some of the ways that applying rhythmically-driven analytical methods can reveal significant insights into Caplet’s musicopoetic voice. The analysis of selected extracts from the chosen mélodies highlights rhythmic actions within different elements of Caplet’s musical language by illuminating two fields: rhythmic distortions in piano solo passages, and prosody and the balance of poetic and musical rhythm. This article presents perspectives on Caplet’s strikingly original and compelling musical language as a means of evoking sonority and atmosphere. |
