Summary, etc. | Placentitis are the main cause of infectious abortion in the mare. Most of the time they are of ascending origin (infection through the cervix) but sometimes they are of non-ascending origin (hematogenous route : leptospirosis ; nocardioform placentitis). In this paper, we describe four clinical cases of placentitis. Two were ascending placentitis : one was treated with success and the other one ended up aborting. The other two cases were non-ascending placentitis due to leptospirosis and Nocardia. Clinical signs, ultrasonographic findings and diagnosis via the transrectal and transabdominal approach, treatment and outcome are described in detail to show the equine practitioner how to proceed when encountering a placentitis case. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
