Summary, etc. | Sinus surgeries are very common in horses. Even though they are decreasingly invasive, complications can still occur during or after a sinusotomy. Haemorrhage is the most common complication during this type of procedure. Placement of a sinus packing and the use of ice-cold lavage solutions are the most often implemented measures. Following surgery, sequestrum can form and maintain a local infection, or even cause a suture periostitis. These must therefore be detected and removed. The lesion that required surgery may in some cases recur and justify a new procedure. Finally, rarer post-operative complications, some of which can be dramatic, are possible. Among these, headshaking following iatrogenic lesions of the trigeminal nerve, has a guarded prognosis. Bacterial meningitis is generally fatal. Every effort must therefore be made to limit the occurrence of these complications. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
