| Summary, etc. | Entre présence et absence, fuite et retour, disparition et redécouverte, le cinéma d’Arnaud Desplechin entretient une relation ambivalente avec la ville de Roubaix. Progressivement, l’œuvre du cinéaste semble avoir établi une cartographie de la ville, arpentant ces différents espaces dans une approche presque documentaire. Mais, le cinéaste dessine aussi les contours d’un espace plus irréel, qui ne cesse de changer et se modifier au gré des mouvements de caméra et des formes de la fiction. La ville de Roubaix devient texte filmique et son apparition cinématographique invente une série de motifs et de figures : entre exil des personnages et royaume des ombres, Roubaix trouve, dans l’œuvre d’Arnaud Desplechin, les modalités mêmes d’apparition dans un art qui l’avait jusqu’ici ignoré. |

| Summary, etc. | Between presence and absence, escape and return, disappearance and rediscovery, Arnaud Desplechin’s cinema has an ambivalent relationship with the city of Roubaix. Gradually, the filmmaker’s work seems to have established a cartography of the city, surveying these different spaces in an almost documentary approach. But the filmmaker also draws the contours of a more unreal space, which is constantly changing and modifying itself according to camera movements and the forms of fiction. The city of Roubaix becomes a filmic text and its cinematic appearance brings forth a series of patterns and figures: between the exile of the characters and the realm of shadows, Roubaix finds, in the work of Arnaud Desplechin, the very modalities of appearance in an art form that had hitherto ignored it. |
