| Summary, etc. | La correspondance de Proust montre que l’écrivain, qui s’était intéressé aux cathédrales du Nord de la France quand il traduisait La Bible d’Amiens de John Ruskin, garde des souvenirs très précis de celle de Laon, en s’appuyant, outre sa visite, sur le Dictionnaire raisonné de l’architecture française de Viollet-le-Duc et L’Art religieux du XIII e siècle en France d’Émile Mâle. À l’heure où s’édifie le cycle romanesque d’ À la recherche du temps perdu, ces souvenirs nourriront le croisement des deux côtés de la société fictive, celui de Swann et celui de Guermantes, ainsi que la germination de l’œuvre, les parties nouvelles (gothiques) recouvrant les brouillons plus anciens tout en en conservant la trace. L’œuvre du temps à même la pierre se voit transposée dans l’œuvre du temps dans la genèse d’un roman long. |

| Summary, etc. | Proust’s correspondence shows that the writer, who had taken an interest in the cathedrals of northern France when he was translating John Ruskin’s The Bible of Amiens , has very precise memories of the one in Laon, based not only on his visit but also on Viollet-le-Duc’s Dictionnaire raisonné de l’architecture française and Émile Mâle’s L’Art religieux du XIIIe siècle en France . At a time when the novel cycle of À la recherche du temps perdu was being built up, these memories would nourish the intersection of the two sides of the fictional society, that of Swann and that of Guermantes, as well as the germination of the work, with the new (Gothic) parts covering over the older drafts while preserving their traces. The work of time in stone is transposed into the work of time in the genesis of a long novel. |
