| Summary, etc. | À partir d’une ethnographie construite sur des récits de vie de personnes adultes, nous tentons dans la présente étude de montrer comment, dans un contexte contraint par des normes sexuées et sexuelles, des personnes négocient leur place et leur définition de soi de façons très diverses avec un corps qui « marque » au départ une position « limite » vis-à-vis de ces normes, un corps que l’on a essayé de rendre plus intelligible au regard de codes morphologiques normés, un corps toutefois susceptible de les rappeler au fil de leurs expériences, contre l’« illusion » d’une résolution permanente, à une configuration « pas tout à fait comme les autres ». En prêtant une attention particulière aux discours et stratégies que mettent en place les personnes pour se réapproprier leur « histoire », qu’elles revendiquent leur intersexualité ou non, nous abordons parallèlement une réflexion sur les enjeux méthodologiques et épistémologiques de l’utilisation d’une catégorie définitionnelle « intersexe ». |

| Summary, etc. | Using narratives of adults born intersexed, we attempt in the present study to show how persons build and negotiate a self definition in very diverse ways, in a context constrained by sexual norms. Intersexed persons deal with a body situated in a « borderline » position with respect to social norms, a body that medical practice tries to make more intelligible through reference to morphological normative codes, and yet, as opposed to the illusion of a permanent resolution through medical body alteration, a body liable to bring the persons back to a configuration « never completely similar to the configuration of ‹ others » at different times of their life and experience. Laying stress on the discourses and personal strategies that persons set up to re-appropriate their own « history » – whether claiming an « intersexual identity » or not – we undertake at the same time a reflexion on the epistemological and methodological stakes underlying the use of the « intersex » category. |
