| Summary, etc. | L’activité « musculation » en Établissement pénitentiaire pour mineurs (EPM) se prête à l’expression du surcodage sexué (Solini, Neyrand, Basson, 2011), certains détenus s’engageant dans une affirmation caricaturale de l’appartenance de genre. Ainsi les adolescents exposent-ils, aux yeux d’autrui, des conduites viriles en accord avec leur sexe biologique, dans le but de susciter la reconnaissance du groupe. Affichant leur volume musculaire, retirant leur tee-shirt et prenant la pose afin de mettre en valeur leurs biceps et leurs pectoraux, ils confrontent leur force physique et font la démonstration de leur courage en se lançant des défis à l’issue desquels l’honneur de la victoire revient à qui parvient à soulever la charge la plus élevée. Du même coup, ces attitudes et comportements virilisés relèguent les filles au rang de groupies aguicheuses. Elles manifestent ainsi une hexis surféminisée, parfois en opposition avec leurs pratiques hors les murs. Cherchant à se conformer à des conduites que la majeure partie des acteurs de la détention estiment devoir être en correspondance avec une représentation stéréotypée de la féminité, les jeunes filles incarcérées affichent une féminité outrée qui témoigne de la domination masculine s’exerçant à l’intérieur des espaces carcéraux. |

By flaunting their voluminous muscles, taking off their T-shirt and posing in such a way as to show their biceps and chest muscles, they confront their physical strength. They thus demonstrate their courage and launch challenges. The winner is the one who is able to lift the heaviest load. These virilized attitudes and behaviors relegate girls to the status of a tantalizing groupies. The girls thus manifest a hyperfeminzed hexis, sometimes in opposition to their behaviour outside the prison. Seeking to conform to the behavior that the majority of prisoners see as a stereotyped representation of femininity, young women in prison manifest a caricature of femininity reflecting the male domination prevailing in prisons. |
